2003
PRC/IMAPS Undergraduate Research Fellowships
The
Packaging Research Center (PRC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology
and The International Microelectronics And Packaging Society (IMAPS) have
created the most comprehensive nationwide system-level
undergraduate fellowship program in the field of microelectronics packaging.
The objective of this program is to expose students whom have taken some
fundamental courses in physics, chemistry, and engineering to microelectronics
and packaging technologies as well as to provide them an industry perspective,
ultimately leading to a career in the packaging industry. This will be
accomplished by involving undergraduates in a research project on a given
topic at a U.S. university during the academic year followed by participation
in the Annual IMAPS Technical Symposium and Exhibition. At the annual
symposium, the undergraduate students will be required to present their
projects, attend leading edge technical presentations, register in one
or more of the professional development courses offered, review the 400
or so electronic product exhibits, and take a four-hour systems-level
tutorial developed by Dr. Rao Tummala, the Director of the (PRC), a National
Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center
(ERC), and other faculty.
For the year of 2003, a total of six (6) undergraduate students from six
(6) different universities (excluding Georgia Tech) will be selected for
this program. The amount of each fellowship is $10,000.
Women
and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply.
The
basis for award includes:
- Technical
approach
- Student qualification
and university support
- Potential
for enhancement of the student’s professional skills
- Potential
for technology transfer to the industrial community
